V&S Engineering Invests in New 5-Axis CNC Equipment

V&S Engineering is proud to announce the installation of a new DMG MORI DMU 50 5-axis machining center at our Huntington Beach facility. This investment represents a significant step forward in our ability to serve aerospace, defense, and high-performance commercial customers who demand increasingly complex geometries and tighter tolerances. The DMU 50 brings simultaneous 5-axis contouring capability to our production floor, enabling us to machine intricate parts in a single setup that previously required multiple operations across different machines.

The addition of 5-axis capability directly addresses the evolving needs of our aerospace and defense customers. Many of the components we produce — from turbine engine housings and structural fittings to sensor mounts and actuator bodies — feature compound angles, undercuts, and contoured surfaces that are difficult or impossible to machine efficiently on 3- or 4-axis equipment. With the DMU 50, we can achieve positional accuracy within ±0.0002" and surface finishes to 16 Ra or better, all while maintaining the rigorous AS9100D quality standards our customers depend on.

Beyond precision gains, the 5-axis center delivers meaningful improvements in throughput and cost efficiency. By consolidating what were previously two or three setups into a single operation, we reduce handling time, eliminate fixturing errors between operations, and significantly shorten lead times. For production runs of complex components, this translates directly into lower per-part costs and more predictable delivery schedules — advantages that compound over the life of a long-term production program.

This investment is part of V&S Engineering's ongoing commitment to staying at the forefront of precision manufacturing technology. Our team has completed comprehensive training on the new platform, including DMG MORI's CELOS control system and advanced toolpath strategies. We're already quoting new programs that leverage the full capabilities of the 5-axis center, and we welcome the opportunity to discuss how this expanded capability can benefit your next project.
