Quality Management
Aerospace Standard
AS9100D Certified
AS9100D is the globally recognized quality management system standard specifically developed for the aviation, space, and defense industries. Built upon ISO 9001, it adds stringent aerospace-specific requirements covering risk management, configuration management, product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, and regulatory compliance.
For aerospace and defense programs, AS9100D certification is not optional — it is a prerequisite for doing business. Prime contractors and Tier 1 suppliers require their machining partners to hold this certification to ensure every component meets the extreme reliability and traceability demands of flight-critical and mission-critical applications.
At V&S Engineering, AS9100D is more than a certificate on the wall. It is embedded into every process, from initial quote to final shipment. Our quality management system governs how we handle incoming materials, execute machining operations, perform inspections, manage non-conformances, and maintain complete traceability for every lot and serial number.
Foundation Standard
ISO 9001:2015
ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for quality management systems (QMS), providing a framework for organizations to ensure consistent quality, drive continuous improvement, and enhance customer satisfaction. It is the most widely adopted quality standard in the world, serving as the foundation upon which industry-specific standards like AS9100D are built.
Our ISO 9001:2015 certified QMS governs every aspect of our operations — from order intake and production planning through machining, inspection, packaging, and delivery. The standard requires us to maintain documented procedures, set measurable quality objectives, conduct internal audits, and perform management reviews to ensure our system remains effective and improving.
Continuous improvement is at the heart of ISO 9001:2015. Through the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, we systematically analyze process data, identify opportunities for enhancement, implement corrective actions, and verify results. This disciplined approach ensures that every part we produce today is better than the one we produced yesterday.
Our Process
Five-Step Quality Process
Incoming Inspection
Every raw material and workpiece received undergoes thorough incoming inspection. We verify material certifications (mill test reports), confirm material grade and heat lot numbers, and perform dimensional and visual checks against purchase order specifications. Any non-conforming material is quarantined and documented through our corrective action system.
In-Process Inspection
Quality checks are performed at critical stages throughout the machining process. Operators use calibrated hand-held instruments — micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and surface roughness testers — to verify dimensions at setup, during production runs, and at process changeovers. First article inspections (FAI) are completed before full production begins.
Final Inspection
Before any part leaves our facility, it undergoes comprehensive final inspection. Every critical dimension, surface finish, and geometric tolerance is verified against the customer's engineering drawing and acceptance criteria. Final inspection reports are generated and packaged with each order for full transparency.
CMM Measurement
Our Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) provides high-precision dimensional verification for complex geometries, tight tolerances, and GD&T callouts. The CMM generates detailed measurement reports that accompany parts, giving customers confidence that every feature meets specification. Our CMM program is maintained with regular calibration and qualification procedures.
Documentation & Traceability
Complete traceability is maintained from raw material receipt through final shipment. Every part is documented with material certifications, inspection records, CMM reports, traveler documents, and certificates of conformance. Our document control system ensures all records are archived and retrievable for the full lifecycle of the product.
